Uplifting the Girl Child is a non-profit organization founded in 2018 which teaches girls in Burundi about puberty and Menstrual Health Management to girls in rural schools, while also distributing disposable and sanitary disposable pads to them. Recognizing that many girls in Burundi cannot afford to purchase their own pads, Uplifting the Girl Child also plans to roll out a program in the future, in which it will instruct users on how to make their own reusable pads.
This organization was founded by 2018 Dartmouth YALI/Mandela program scholar, Grace Ningejeje. She is also the author of a new book about menstrual hygiene written for Burundian adolescent girls in English and Kirundi
